🌏 What is Meloria? A New Proposal Involving Solomon Islands🌺
Halo Olaketa! There’s a new proposal being discussed that could affect Solomon Islands’ future — it’s called Meliora, and it’s important for Solomon Islanders to understand what it’s all about.
What is Meliora?
Meliora is a proposal for a separate city-state, built on reclaimed land that would be leased from Solomon Islands. The idea is to create a brand new, self-governing city mainly for people from Australia, the Philippines, and other parts of Asia.
What’s being proposed:
📜 Solomon Islandsleases part of its land — likely reef atolls that are uninhabited. This area would be built up with land reclamation and leased to an independent Meliora government for a limited period.
🏙️ A new city is built — modern, climate-resilient, and focused on trade, tech, and international residents.
👩💼 Populated mainly by migrants — Meliora would welcome workers, families, and businesses from across Asia and the Pacific Rim.
💰 In return, Solomon Islands receives lease payments — providing a new source of income for the country and her Sovereign wealth fund. .
Why this matters for Solomon Islanders:
Could provide revenue — money from the lease could support health, education, and climate efforts in the Solomons. Our proposal is geared to provide up to AUD$2 Billion in revenue for the Solomons.
Increased job opportunities — Islanders would be able to gain access to work in Meliora, earning higher salaries, whilst remaining a resident of the Solomons.
Increased Healthcare — More medical facilities in Meloria would be available for the benefit of all Solomon Islander without having to leave the Solomons.
The Solomons keep sovereignty — The Solomons would still own the territory, and could end the lease in the future if needed.
Raises questions — about culture, environment, and who benefits. It's important that any deal is transparent and fair.
Things to consider:
Will Solomon Islander voices be heard in the process?
How will the environment be protected?
Can this help the Solomons face climate change — or create new risks?
This is still a proposal, not a final plan — but it’s something worth talking about. Meloria could be a bold new idea… or it could carry risks.
Let’s keep the conversation going. 🌺
